MTBA Updates Related to COVID-19 Pandemic

Dear MTBA Families,

Just a short time ago we received word from the Recreation Department that all spring rec sports programs have now officially been cancelled.  While not surprising given our current situation, it is still disappointing to not have baseball this spring.  But of course we have to look at the big picture and given the health risks we know this decision was made in the best interests of protecting the well-being of our families and community.

As noted in the message we sent out earlier today, we will be providing refunds to all those that registered for 2020 spring rec baseball so there is no need for you to contact us about that.  We are having a board meeting before the end of this week to finalize our refund process and assign tasks so that we can get that done as efficiently as possible, and we will provide a status update when appropriate.

Stay safe,

MTBA Executive Board

Dear MTBA Families,

With the announcement yesterday that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year (and the school spring sports seasons cancelled as well), we reached out to our Rec Department to see if there was any new information regarding spring rec sports.  At this point no final decisions have been made to cancel any spring rec programs, but we realize that realistically time is running out to be able to hold a spring baseball season even if it were deemed safe to gather again; our expectation is that we will have a final decision on the season in two weeks at the latest.  That said, we have discussed the things we need to do if the season is cancelled and understand that from a parent's perspective the main concern would be with refunds.  Should the spring season be officially cancelled, we will initiate a process to provide refunds back to all those that registered for spring rec baseball without the need of any communication or request from you; please understand that if/when that happens it will take a bit of time (given we have a few hundred players that need to be processed one at a time) but we will do our best to get that done as quickly as possible.  We will provide more details on that process if/when a season cancellation is announced, but for now we wanted to let you know that we are doing our best to plan ahead in this uncertain situation.

Stay safe,

MTBA Executive Board

Dear MTBA families,

While it's been announced that in general parks are re-opening tomorrow under specific rules, please note that the fields and batting cages at JMP and all schools (and Thompson Park) are still off-limits.  We know the nice weather and the itch to get outside and play some ball makes it hard, but we need everyone to abide and stay off the fields, teams and individuals alike.  This has been confirmed and reinforced in an email to us from the Rec Department earlier today which stated:

  • No game fields or practice fields are available.
  • No practices are allowed.
  • No meetings.
  • No practices or meetings of any kind at school sports fields or County game fields.
  • This applies to all Monroe Recreation Sports!!
  • All Township fields will remain closed until further notice.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Stay safe,

MTBA Executive Board

Dear MTBA Families and Friends,

First and foremost, we hope this email finds you and your family in good health.

Today would have been the official Opening Day for the 2020 spring rec baseball season, but of course the world health crisis has not allowed that to happen; so please have your own ceremonial first pitch at home and think positive that life will return to normal sooner than later!

In accordance with state and local government directives, as well as the Monroe Township Recreation Department, all MTBA-sanctioned activities (practices, games, meetings, fundraisers, etc.) for both the recreation and travel programs will continue to be suspended until further notice.  We will make determinations regarding the status of the spring baseball season in accordance with the guidance provided to us by the aforementioned entities, and will provide updates once any firm decisions have been made.

As always, the health and safety of our players, coaches, and families is of paramount concern; please be safe.

Best regards,

Monroe Township Baseball Association Executive Board

Dear MTBA Families and Friends,

In light of the recent developments in town related to the coronavirus, Governor Murphy's executive orders, and latest CDC-recommendations, and as directed by the Monroe Township Recreation Department, effective immediately all MTBA-sanctioned activities (practices, games, meetings, fundraisers, etc.) for both the recreation and travel programs are suspended until further notice.  Therefore nobody should be using James Monroe Park or any of the fields in Monroe in any capacity, there should be no team meetings or gatherings, there will be no MTBA league meetings, and so on.  This is not a cancellation of the spring season at this point, but we are effectively shut down until we hear otherwise from our Recreation Department.  As we get new information we will be sure to provide updates as needed.

As always, the health and safety of our players, coaches, and families is of paramount concern; please be safe.

Best regards,

Monroe Township Baseball Association Executive Board
